Hi DTOL Member

…and welcome to the latest edition of the DTOL newsletter.

In these uncertain times, what is certain is that nothing lasts forever and one day (hopefully soon) we’ll all be back teaching dance once again.

In the meantime, if you’re one of the many forced to close temporarily, then this could well be that opportunity to learn something new, tidy up office files, perform that long overdue inventory of all your recital costumes or even freshen up your dance studios such as giving them a new coat of paint (that last one was especially for me).

Online classes

I’ve noticed that quite a few teachers have already begun to use various platforms to deliver online dance classes or just as a way to keep in contact with students. Here are some suggestions to explore:

• Zoom
• Skype
• Facebook Live

Though be careful about PRS rights about any pre-recorded music you may use in your live classes. GDPR For The Arts is a good (private) Facebook group with lots of info around topics such as this and other legal issues.

Zoom seems to be particularly popular and there’s a little visual hack you can set called “Touch Up My Appearance” (go to the lower-left-hand corner of the screen and choose Video Settings).

Dance Online

In our current locked-down world, dance is becoming freely available online and here are some quick links:

New dtol.dance website

The new mobile-friendly & secure DTOL website is up & running and all previous functionality, such as advertising a dance teaching job or posting your résumé is now available.

Photos

The big new feature, now active, is being able to display photos with your DTOL listing, or even with your job adverts and résumés.

Just sign into your DTOL account and you can see the new option to Upgrade to Gold to be able to display photos.

Jobs & Résumés

I’ve left all the freely-listed job adverts & résumés active, while I’ve been completing the new website. However some of these have already expired, so I’ll be removing those in the next few days. Remember you can extend a job advert or résumé listing for longer (and display photos) by upgrading for an extra 3, 6 or 12 months.

Search

There is now a search option in the Find a Dance Teacher pages. So, for example, you can easily look for all Salsa teachers in Scotland!
